If you write the date in English so this is done in the USA as follows: 12-24-2009

The example is therefore 24th December 2009 and not a write error. In British English, however, the date is exactly the same as in Indonesia: 24.12.2009

This example is for illustrative purposes of how to write the date in English. In addition, there are a few other things that are interesting in the English language.

If you write out the month that belongs to the day and do not only use numbers to represent the date, an addition is used in English, which varies depending on the number. This addition is usually placed directly behind the number.

Jan 1st, Jan 2nd, Jan 3rd, Jan 4th, Jan 5th, Jan 6th, …

As the sequence shows, different abbreviations are used for 1, 2 and 3 than for all others.

All numbers from 4-20 have a “th”. The 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. then start again with “st”, “nd” and “rd”:

Jan 21st, Jan 22nd, Jan 23rd

It may seem a bit confusing at first sight, but on closer inspection one realizes that there are actually only 4 variations and they always repeat themselves. The date in English is thus less complicated than it may appear at first.
